ID: 63599989 Shift: M-F 8-5 Lunch 1-2 Description: POSITION PURPOSE The Medical Assistant ( MA ) is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and providing care to patients within the scope of practice and will strive to provide these services in a compassionate, professional, ethical, and knowledgeable fashion. The MA assists performing administrative clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records. Clinical duties are under the direction and supervision of medical providers and may include preparing treatment rooms for patient exams, recording patient medical history, and cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment. The Medical Assistant works under the general supervision of the Clinic Supervisor. SUMMARY All employees are expected to perform their duties as set forth here and in accordance with all policies, procedures, and Mission, Values, and Vision of Catalina Island Medical Center CIMC. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction with respect and dignity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Escort patients to exam rooms and performs all intake vitals and collects necessary information to add to the patients chart. 2. Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filled out and available in patients medical records prior to their appointment. 3. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, keeping patient information confidential. 4. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations; Assist provider in exam rooms, as needed. 5. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations. 6. Follows all transmission precautions and infection control policies. 7. Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required; Properly disposes of contaminated supplies. 8. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. 9. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.) 10. Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls. 11. Keep excellent records and documentation of services and dictations from providers. 12. Draws blood, changes dressings, per provider order. 13. Performs point of care tests, such as hemoglobin, urinalysis, Snellen tests, audiometric readings, and specimen collection, as ordered by provider. 14. Performs administrative and clerical duties, as assigned, including assisting with front desk duties. ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTIONS Be compliant with organizational policies and procedures and related departmental procedures. Follow all HIPAA regulations as outlined in the HIPAA Policy and Procedure Manual. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Excellent customer service skills for both inter and intra department. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality concerning financial and employee files. Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Serves as an information resource for employees, assembling appropriate reference materials to help them perform their work more effectively. Perform physically demanding tasks such as transportation and physical care of debilitated patients. 32. Deal with patients who may be under physical and emotional stress. 33. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a Critical Access/ Rural Health Clinic environment. It involves frequent contact with patients, physicians, and other CIMC staff. The employee may be exposed to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions that are common to the clinical environment. Safety policies and good health practices are expected to be understood and observed. Physical / Mental Demands 1. The person doing the job works closely with patients in all age categories. Patients are treated with care and compassion and with special regard for age-specific considerations. 2. Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including lifting, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. 3. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. 4. Must have the manual dexterity that is necessary to operate a computer, telephone, copier, fax, and other such office equipment and medical equipment, as necessary. 5. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. 6. Requires the ability to work in stressful situations. 7. Fast and continuous work pace with variable workload 8. Interactions are subject to many interruptions from multiple calls and inquiries and potentially emotional situations involving accidents, injuries and/or death. 9. Handles emergency/crisis situations in accordance with policy. 10. Potential risk of exposure to hazards from bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases 11. Potential risk of exposure to hazards from chemicals (toxic and non-toxic, flammable materials gas and electrical or radiant energy or equipment with or without moving parts). EDUCATION CERTIFICATION High School Diploma/GED required. Assoc. Degree/College Diploma preferred. Completion of an accredited program of training as a Medical Assistant or equivalent. EXPERIENCE One year of experience performing medical assistant duties as noted above, preferably in a small outpatient clinic. REQUIREMENTS 1. Current Medical Assistant Certification Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) Additional Information:Housing is a studio apartment and is offered at $200 per week paid for by traveler. There is a $200 non-refundable cleaning fee. Boat Tickets are provided at the ferry ticket counter. No personal automobiles are allowed on the Island.
