Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive ambulatory and inpatient care to a diverse patient population.
- Participate in health care planning, disease prevention, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to medical staff bylaws and clinical privilege requirements, maintaining a high standard of patient care.
- Serve as a leader in fostering excellence, collaboration, and morale within the healthcare team.
- Engage in medical staff executive committee activities and support organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school.
- Residency in Family Practice and Board Certification in Family Medicine.

Arc Health is seeking Board Certified Emergency Medicine physicians to provide emergency medicine care at a comprehensive Indian Health Service facilities in the Southwest. This facility is in Polacca AZ in a rural, tribal community in Northeastern Arizona. The facility has about 13,500 annual patient visits and offers 24 hours of physician coverage. Strong Navajo and Hopi cultural traditions exist within this community, offering an opportunity to learn the Navajo and Hopi languages, or to learn about traditional Native American medicine.
The emergency room operates 24-hours a day and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) responders are always available. Diabetes prevention treatment is provided both individually and in group settings, i.e. kitchen creation/eating healthy programs are available. A nutritionist works as part of this team to monitor, track, and create healthy living and lifestyle recommendations. Podiatry services are available on a scheduled basis through contract specialists. Physical therapy and well-child visits are conducted in an outpatient setting, by appointment. Public health nursing works with the Hopi Tribe Community Health Workers to monitor, follow-up, and provide individual and group health interventions. Tribal Behavioral Health Services are also available 24 hours a day. It serves a rural and underserved community in Polacca, AZ. Ideal candidates are those who will consider picking up at least 6-12 shifts per month on an on-going basis.
Practice Description
- Typical number of patients per day: 20-30/day,10-20/night

- Schedule: 12 hour shifts, 7a-7p/7p-7a
- Solo coverage - no APP back up
- 7 bed ED
- Imaging: Sonosite in ED, imaging read off-site, CT, MRI and Ultrasound available limited hours
- Trauma patients: Major trauma, acute surgical emergencies and high-risk obstetric patients are transported to Flagstaff Medical Center (1hr, 56min), Tuba City Indian Medical Hospital (1 hr, 14 min), Chinle Hospital (1 hr, 12 min), Phoenix Indian Medical Center (4 hrs, 7 min) or to several other contracted health facilities. Patients are typically transported via medical air transport services. This involves the use of helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft equipped for medical emergencies. Helicopter transport to nearby tertiary centers can take approximately 30-60 minutes, depending on the distance and weather conditions. Fixed-Wing Aircraft might take 1-2 hours, including the time for transfer to and from airports.

The Facility, located in Parker, Arizona, delivers high-quality healthcare services to the members of five Native American tribes. Serving a population of over 5,200 individuals, the Colorado Service Unit includes members from the Colorado River Indian Tribes, which represent an ethnic mix of Mojave, Hopi, Navajo, and Chemehuevi, as well as the Hualapai, Havasupai, Chemehuevi, and Fort Mojave tribes.
The hospital is a 20-bed facility, accredited by the Joint Commission (JCAHO), and is staffed by five physicians and one physician's assistant. Notably, it was the first tribal hospital in the United States to have its inpatient beds licensed as swing beds.
Parker PHS Indian Hospital provides comprehensive general medical care and pediatric services to the local community. Specialty outpatient services are offered on-site by Indian Health Service (IHS) providers, contract specialists, or through off-site referrals. Obstetric patients are typically referred to local private facilities for delivery.
