This comprehensive health facility provides a range of services to the communities in Alaska’s Northwest Arctic region. The facility has a 17-bed capacity, which includes a 5-bed Emergency Department that operates 24/7.
The health center offers a wide spectrum of services, including:
- Primary care
- Inpatient care
- Emergency care
- Behavioral health
- Specialty care services such as dental, eye care, and physical therapy
This facility is the hub for healthcare in the region, working closely with village clinics and public health nurses. The Emergency Department is designed to provide immediate, varied emergency care for patients experiencing sudden illness or trauma, with a triage system in place to determine care priorities. For more severe cases, the department coordinates with flight services to transfer patients to higher-level care facilities.
Nurses in the Emergency Department are highly trained to care for patients from birth through the lifespan. All emergency staff maintain certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), ensuring the highest standard of care for the community’s safety. Certified Nurse Midwives provide services for 50-100 low-risk deliveries per year.
It is important to note that emergency services can rapidly teeter between urgent care to complex coordination to true life-threatening pathology as a sole provider 3 hours away from specialty services (depending on weather). If you are passionate about rural healthcare and mission-driven to serve underserved populations, we welcome you to join this team. No minimum number of shifts per month.
